Vat ‘n ouma fliek toe

Solidarity Helping Hand’s Roodepoort branch took out 20 grandma's and grandpa’s to the movies yesterday.

This was part of their national project called Vat ‘n ouma fliek toe.

Helping Hand chose the elderly from Florida’s Ons Huis and Krugersdorp’s Emmanuel Old Age homes because of their involvement in other Helping Hand projects such as Brei ‘n Blok.

The homes have been active, knitting as many beautiful blankets as they can.

This is the first time the Roodepoort branch has participated in this annual national project with regional manager Adele Kruger and Mariette van de Werken assisting by being chaperones.

“Helping Hand focuses on children and the elderly. Since we have a Christmas party for the children, we decided this would be a great way to do something for the elderly and show that we appreciate everything they do for us,” said Helping Hand’s Roodepoort chairman Adriaan van de Wekren

The day started off at Falcons Falls Spur with breakfast. They were also presented with goodie bags containing snacks.

It was then off to watch French Toast, a newly released Afrikaans movie.

“Today we want to spoil the elderly as much as we can because we appreciate the help they give us with our national projects. I hope they enjoyed the day,” said Adele Kruger.
