A man was arrested after trying to apply for financing with falsified documents at a bank in Westgate Shopping Centre.
The man tried to commit identity fraud on 12 March at around 3.49 pm according to Roodepoort Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo.
“He tried to apply for financing using a bank statement, payslip, proof of residence and an ID that was falsified,” Khumalo in a press statement said.
“The Roodepoort Police were alerted and arrested the man in the bank after which a fraud case was opened,” she said.
The man first appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday 13 March, Khumalo said.
“The police encourage the community to keep personal documents in a safe place,” she said.
