A head-on collision on the N1 in Maraisburg just before 4am this morning left one man dead and one man injured, according to Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann.
Netcare 911 paramedics, its rescue unit and other services arrived at the scene and found that the two motor vehicles had collided head-on and one of the vehicles burst into flames.
Upon assessment of the occupants they found that one man died on impact during the crash and was trapped in the vehicle. The
fire department had to make use of the Jaws of Life to extricate him.
The male driver of the vehicle that burst into flames was found to have sustained moderate to serious injuries and was transported to
hospital for further medical care after receiving treatment at the scene.
Exact details surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.
