Police captain shot at home

A police captain, 37, was shot at his home in Strubens Valley this morning (10 March) while investigating a noise in his yard.

At around 2 am he exited his house to see what is going on in his yard.

He was shot in his stomach. In a Netcare 911 press release spokesperson Santi Steinmann said that paramedics received the call for assistance at around 2.20 am.

“Upon arrival on the scene they found the injured man had sustained a critical gunshot wound following the shooting incident,” Steinmann in a press statement said.

“Exact detail surrounding the cause of the incident and preceding events will be investigated by the police,” she said.

The captain was airlifted by the Netcare1 helicopter to Milpark Hospital where he is receiving urgent medical care.

Apparently the captain worked as a detective.

According to Roodepoort police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo the suspect is unknown and still at large.

“He was shot when he opened the door to see what was going on outside,” Khumalo said.

“A case of attempted murder was opened at the Honeydew Police Station,” she told the Record.
