Residents bring bills to Municipal Open Day
Region C municipal open day

The Revenue Shared Services Centre hosted their Open Day this weekend at the Roodepoort Town Hall.
Expert customer relations agents were on hand to resolve people’s queries and bring municipal accounts up to date.
Aldor Africa business owner Hennie Stoop received a huge shock at the end of January this year when he opened his bill. He was being charged R1 million for water. He has been to the Hamburg water depot to have the problem solved with no success.
“Even the City Council could not help. According to my meter readings, I have been billed for five different water meter reading and that does not make sense. Those meters never started at zero so I hope to get some answers,” he said.
Baby Doman, the 83-year-old pensioner from Discovery who received a bill of R16 048 445 was in line to have the problem resolved. She hoped that the agents would be able to help her resolve her bill by end of day.
Other pensioners in line to have their billing issues resolved included Anna and Willem Oosthuizen from Florida Glen. They’ve had trouble with their rates and taxes for years without any assistance.
They have been billed over R6000 for a property valued at just over R1 million despite them being pensioners.
“Today I hope to be assisted because we have been up and down to Braamfontein and other offices with no help. We get nowhere all the time. We are pensioners, we can’t be billed as if we live in a house that costs R3 million,” they said.
Victor Ngwenya from Weltervreden Park went to the open day to resolve an issue of being overcharged.
“Last year August the municipality overcharged me on my billing and have never been repaid. I have lodged the complain four times with no success. I was invited here in the hopes that this is where my problems will be resolved,” said Ngwenya.
