Last nights storm damage

A severe rain storm hit Roodepoort last night till the early hours of the morning.

Florida North seems to have been hardest hit.

The corner of Lange Street and Zandra Avenue where a stop sign is located caved in due to the storm. This left the drainage pipes exposed.

The damage did not end there as sand and gravel carried by the water from the rain was deposited in the road, blocking access.

At the entrance of the shopping complex in the corner of Lange Street and Gordon Road, the tar has lifted due to the heavy rain, making it difficult for vehicles to manoeuvre.

In Gordon Valley Complex, the security wall was brought down by the heavy rains, leaving cars exposed to criminal elements.

Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson Bertha Peter-Scheepers said she was not aware of the damage as the storm affected more than one area.

“I will have to look into the specific road because we have had a torrent of reports coming in about the extent of Tuesday’s storm damage,” said Peter-Sceepers.
