Toddler, 3, witnesses parents’ murder-suicide
A three-year-old girl was with her parents when her father allegedly murdered her mother and shot himself in a residential complex in Weltevreden Park.
Last night (3 February) VitalMed Emergency Services responded to the scene, as initially reported by Roodepoort Northsider. The shooting took place at a complex on the corner of JG Strydom and Springhaas Roads. The couple was found in a pool of their own blood.
The toddler allegedly told security that her father was hurting her mother. She was with her parents in their home at the time of the shooting and went to the security guards at the main entrance to the complex to ask for help. Initial reports state that the deceased female had two gunshot wounds to the head and the deceased male had one gunshot wound.
It is understood that neighbours heard three gunshots that night.
Honeydew Police spokesperson Karen Jacobs asked that questions about the shooting be emailed to her and committed to commenting at a later stage.
