Victory House private school was named the Top Independent School in the Johannesburg West District last week.
This was at the Gauteng Department of Education district awards held last week Friday.
It is the third consecutive year the private school has won this award. Four of its teachers also received top educator awards in subjects such as Mathematics Literacy, English first language and Afrikaans. This is also the third time their teachers have claimed such awards.
Siphesihle Hlonga from the school won the award for Top Independent School Pupil.
The school is in its 18th year and principal Karryn Austen said the reason the school is so successful is because the educators have a positive attitude towards teaching and their learners.
“All the teachers love the pupils and with small classes we can give each of them individual attention. That in turn creates a positive atmosphere in class and the pupils respond better,” she said.
Austen also added that the young median age of teachers, which is 35 years of age, is another aspect which makes the qualified staff more relatable to their pupils.
The school has less than 700 pupils from grade 0 to matric.
