The Florida Lake Sea Scouts gathered this weekend to name and launch their new Gig.
The historical event, led by Scout Group Leader Karon Willson, was attended by many Cubs, Scouts, Rovers, parents and friends. The Sea Rescue boat forms part of the many water activities enjoyed by the Scouts.
The boat was custom made and named after Harry Neilly.
Neilly’s scouting name is Sparks, and has been involved with the Sea scout group for over 42 years.
The Gig will be used for rowing training and as a rescue boat.
Sea Scouts compete in an annual provincial Seamanship regatta with their Gig.
Sailing, canoeing and canoe polo on the water are some of the activities the scouts enjoy including other other land based Scouting activities.
