Three suspects were detained for possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, housebreaking tools and a suspected stolen motor vehicle during the first weekend in November.
Members of the national Special Investigation Unit acted on information received from the public regarding three suspects involved in several crimes. They were said to be driving a white Toyota Corolla with specific registration numbers and were spotted in the vehicle on the N1 South near 14th Avenue, where they were pulled over.
“A search was conducted and one suspect was found to possess a firearm with a magazine containing eight live rounds,” Florida Police spokesperson Lydia Dikolomela said in a press statement.
A blue bag containing several housebreaking tools also was found. While searching the vehicle police saw that the original chassis and engine numbers have been tampered with.
“Further investigation revealed that the firearm was reported stolen in Silverton, Pretoria in 2012,” Dikolomela said.
The suspects have appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court. The record will give an update as the story develops.
