One of America’s most popular and revered presidents, Harry S Truman coined the saying “The buck stops here”. He will be remembered ever for this statement. He had this sign on his desk in the oval office of the White House.
But especially because he believed in the principal of accountability and good governance.
It is very sad and indeed tragic that this sentiment is not practiced by our officials and authorities. It would go a very long way in healing and fixing the absolute chaos and lawlessness that the citizens of our beloved South Africa have to bear.
If only the officials and people in authority would apply this very sound principal and do what they are supposed to do, South Africa would be a very different place from the mess we find ourselves in today.
From the lowest to the very highest in the country, passing the buck is the way the laws and bylaws of this country is administered. It is near impossible to find anyone in authority these days who is willing or able to commit themselves to the principal of accountability. All that happens is the buck gets passed on. And in the end chaos and lawlessness is allowed to carry on completely unfettered and out of control.
I am very disappointed and saddened to see what this country has become. It is very hard to find good people in authority to heal this country a little bit at a time by taking responsibility to do what they are supposed to do.
