Stop Hunger Now, together with pupils of Aurora College, set their weekend activities aside to help in the battle against hunger.
On Saturday Aurora pupils volunteered to help pack a total of 40 000 food parcels at Clearwater Mall.
Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief organisation established in 1998 in the USA that coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aids around the world. The organisation is driven by a vision and mission to provide food to the most destitute and hungry in the most effective, sustainable and efficient manner.
Stop Hunger Now South Africa (SHN SA) is a volunteer-based meal-packaging and results-oriented nutrition programme, which was started in South Africa in 2009.
SHN SA’s vision is to eradicate hunger in South Africa. The organisation offers a social investment opportunity to provide the fully balanced nutritional meals pre-school children need for their development. They depend on passionate, active volunteers for meal packaging and food distribution.
Their food parcels contains highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprising rice, soy, vegetables and a sachet containing 21 essential vitamins and minerals. The meals are easy to store and transport.
“We are very touched by the impact Aurora pupils have made in changing the world. We are very proud of them for reaching our day target of packaging 40 000 food parcels,” says Stop Hunger Now volunteer ambassador Aldon Karshagen.
“The event was a success and we are happy they managed to reach their target,” says Vicky Vlok, general manager of Clearwater Mall.
