Rea Vaya buses drive me insane. They have inspectors on the bus now checking our tags. What I don’t understand, is why the machine in the bus never works and when you get to the station it is offline. When your tag is checked they fine you R12,50, which exceeds the normal cost of a one-way trip. I usually pay R7,20 to travel from Flora Centre to Parktown.
The buses are supposed to run every 15 minutes in the week and every hour over weekends but a bus will come at 3.55pm and the next will arrive only at 4.45pm. When it comes, it already is filled to capacity. I have to stand while commuting from Milpark Station to Newlands – only then do most of the commuters get off the bus.
The assistants at the station act as if they are doing you a favour doing their job. When the machines in buses don’t work they have to check us in and we have to check our tags when leaving and you usually have to beg them to do so.
I really would like someone to tell me what the purpose of so many employees is when it’s such an effort for them to help us.
Rea Vaya seems to have a lot of money for all the inspectors and assistants they hire but their service is substandard.
Why not do away with some employees and improve your service?
