Residents praise councillor’s proactive stance
Councillor catch culprits in the act.
Ward 85 councillor, Carl Mann has been involved actively in his ward since recovering from a medical condition.
During an inspection at the notorious smash-and-grab T-juction at Wilgerood and Christiaan de Wet Road, Mann made a disturbing find.
In the shrubs where it is speculated criminals hide before they attack, Mann found bank cards and other personal belongings of three different victims. Mann contacted one of the victims and returned her goods to her. He had to destroy the other two sets of bank cards as the owners could not be reached.
The victim, who asked to stay anonymous, expressed her gratitude but added that she was shocked that the police is aware of the problem, yet nothing is being done to protect the public.
On the same day Mann allegedly caught two men illegally erecting signs along Christiaan de Wet Road. He promptly made them take down the signs, confiscated it and contacted their employer with a stern warning not to erect illegal advertisements again.
Residents have thanked Mann for his proactive stance in the community, especially regarding littering, illegal dumping and illegal signage.
He asks the community to contact him with any problems regarding illegal signage so that he can take the matter up with Metro Police.
According to Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar the fine for erecting illegal signage is R150 per square metre. Minnaar asks that the public bring the smash-and-grab spot under the attention of the director of JMPD Operations, Sipho Dlepu on 011 758 9128 in order for it to be policed properly.
Mann can be reached on 072 616 2025.
