Fundraising a priority at CWSA Roodepoort

CWSA Roodepoort is no longer a Lotto beneficiary and depends on public support.

Child Welfare South Africa (CWSA) Roodepoort held their annual general meeting last Friday (3 October) where the focus was drawn to fundraising, community projects and financials.

Previously known simply as Child Welfare Roodepoort, the organisation works to improve children’s lives through child care and protection services, family preservation and support, children’s court, foster care placement, children’s home services, adoptions, parenting and social skills programmes, crisis intervention and counselling. An independent auditor’s report for the financial year, which ended in March this year, was presented to attendees. In her report chairperson Angelique McAdam thanked local businesses for their continued support.

“There are no words to communicate our gratitude adequately,” McAdam said. She thanked every person who took the time to assist the organisation.

She said she is sad to announce that the organisation no longer receives funding from the National Lottery Board.

“However, this has brought forward an opportunity for the organisation to further engage in different avenues of sponsorship, fundraising and awareness campaigns,” McAdam said in her report.

Above all CWSA Roodepoort seeks funding to roll out various projects and maintain their running costs, McAdam said. They are appealing to the community for donations in terms of household items, school supplies, office stationery, petrol, building maintenance, IT support and website maintenance, food and sanitary parcels.

“We are always in need of volunteers to assist us with numerous events and projects, especially mentors and teachers and retired and registered social workers, psychologists, play therapists and counsellors,” McAdam said.

Two major initiatives to raise funds and extend their reach include the upcoming Charity Ball in November and the Christmas Box initiative for December.

David Rees, well-known television actor (Hartland, Egoli) is getting involved with CWSA Roodepoort and a night with him will be auctioned off at the charity ball on Saturday 22 November. McAdam appeals to residents to brighten less fortunate children’s Christmas by donating a Christmas box that contains a T-shirt, underwear, small toy, toothbrush, toothpaste, face cloth, body soap, colouring pencils, a notebook and a packet with sweets and donate it to CWSA Roodepoort at 45 Du Toit Street, Discovery, to distribute.
