Westview Clinic, formerly known as Sanca West Rand, held a free detoxification day in conjunction with On Florida on 20 September.
The event celebrated the one-year anniversary of the hand-over of a memorandum on drugs by the community to the MEC.
On the day the public was welcome to view the establishment, get information and those who felt the need to be detoxified were given acupuncture.
André Brink, who administered the acupuncture, says the 5 000-year-old practice is safe and they choose it because it does not involve any medicine to be taken. Brink, an addictive behaviour specialist, also runs the Live Insight Centre, which councils people with substance abuse for free every Monday to Friday between 7am and 9am.
Among the volunteers at the clinic was actor Anthony Bishop.
