Entertaining Toastmasters laugh last

Toastmasters compete in recent Humorous and Impromptu Speech Contest.

Florida Toastmasters recently celebrated comedy and quick wit with a contest at the Huguenot Restaurant in Flora Centre.

The Florida Toastmasters held their Humorous and Impromptu Speech Contest with three contestants in each relative category. Dawn Hemming, contest chair, kept everyone on track during the interesting and enjoyable evening.

After hearing the toast of the evening by Neville Solomon who addressed self-development, contestants commenced the Impromptu wing of the contest. Robert de Kramer, Victor Silas and Wessie van der Westhuizen were required to speak for one to two minutes on the theme of communication.

“As challenging as this might have been, their three speeches were well presented and greatly entertaining,” said Michael Glencross, the public relations officer.

“During the Humorous wing of the contest, Elize Ellis told ‘a very messed-up story’ while Robert de Kramer presented the idea of getting hooked onto something.

“Neville Solomon spoke about playing the fool, and all three speeches were of a high standard and extremely funny.”

Glencross was also chief judge for the evening and later announced Wessie van der Westhuizen the winner of the Impromptu Speech Contest. Neville Solomon was voted the worthy winner of the Humorous Speech Contest.

“The two winners will compete in the Area Speech Contest at MTN in 14th Avenue held later in September,” says Glencross.
