Esmero extends its portfolio

Esmero Cycling Club has gone from strength to strength since it was established in January 2008.

Based in Florida, Esmero Cycling Club has gone from strength to strength since it was established in January 2008.

This six-year-old club primarily caters for the cycling needs of the recreational cyclist. However, in January this year it has expanded its portfolio to include a male and female elite team.

Fayyaz Moosa, owner of the Activate Drinks brand, a new vitamin drink to hit the shelves, has come on board as a sponsor of the newly formed elite teams.

Known as Team Activate, the male team consists of four experienced riders – Richard Baxter, Gareth Krisch, Franklin Newton and Marcel Dewit. The female team consists of An-li Kachelhoffer (co-sponsored by ASG and NSB) and Mandy Human.

To date the men’s team have finished second at the Emperors Palace Criterium and third at the Carousel race and the Tough One in Pretoria.

The ladies team has raked in several major wins such as the Berge en Dale Classic, Carnival City Macsteel National Classic, Wilro 100 Cycle Challenge and Carousel Cycle Race.

Kachelhoffer, in the absence of Human also won the Tour de Boland, came in third place at the Cape Argus and more recently represented South Africa at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

For a team in their first year, Team Activate already has left an indelible mark in South African cycling.
