Sensational Samu claims Sanlam SA women’s amateur match play championships
15 years old golfer makes history.

Local golfer and Ruimsig Country Club member Ivanna Samu defeated arguably one of the strongest fields the Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Match Play Championship has seen.
The prestigious tournament took place at Ruimsig Country Club, a Championship layout and Gary Player design. Samu dominated over the four days showing steely determination on her way to the semi-final, which proved to be her first real test. A tight match was sealed when Ivanna hit a pure second shot from a fairway bunker setting up an eagle putt. Two putts were good enough to see her into the final, which saw her up against Randpark Golf Club member, Lora Assad.
15 years old Samu got off to a flying start and was 4 up through five holes. Lora rallied back but there was no stopping a sizzling Samu who closed the match out for a 2and 1 win.
“This is the first time in 38 years that a player has won the SA Women’s Amateur on their home course. This win comes as no surprise to us.”
“Ivanna’s work ethic is incredible and it was just a matter of time before she won a major event such as this. We’re extremely proud to have her as a member,” said Ruimsig Country Club Golf director Charles Jerrard.
