Stéfan Louw to introduce young tenors
Chris Monotoe and Muzi Mazibuko are Roodepoort's latest opera sensations.
Stéfan Louw, considered one of the country’s best opera tenors, will introduce Roodepoort audiences to two young tenors this August.
On Sunday 10 August Chris Monotoe and Muzi Mazibuko will take to the stage at the Roodepoort Theatre. Both Monotoe and Mazibuko are members of Louw’s Aria! Opera Chorus that was launched in April this year.
However, Mazibuko (26) is no stranger to the Roodepoort Theatre stages. In 2006 he became a member of the ProMusica Opera Chorus as it was then directed by Weiss Doubell and performed in Mozart’s Requiem in D Major as well as in the Magic Flute, followed by Don Giovanni in 2007.
Making his solo debut in the professional production on Sunday, Monotoe (21) has quite the extensive musical background, being a former member of the Soweto Young Voices and having received vocal training in Germany from Frank Heilgeist.
Both the young tenors will join Louw and soprano Jo-Nette LeKay for an all-Italian opera programme in Louw’s own production, Aria! Opera for Everyone. For this production, Louw again will produce groups of arias from operas, including IlTrovatore, Lucia di Lammermoor and I Pagliacci. The soloists and Aria! Opera Chorus will be accompanied by pianist Eugene Joubert.
Sunday’s concert starts at 3pm and tickets are available at R120 per person. To reserve seats contact Joburg City Theatres’ central reservations on 0861 670 670 or book online at www.roodepoorttheatre.com. Patrons also can make dinner reservations at the new Stages Restaurant adjacent to the Theatre by contacting Lucky on 082 221 1757 or 011 674 1356.
