Letsoaka might coach under-20’s

Serame Letsoaka, Igesund's former assistant, might coach the national under-20 team once his contract expires.

Now that Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba has taken over the duties of Bafana Bafana coach, Serame Letsoaka has been linked with the vacant national Under-20 job.

At the moment Letsoaka, who served as assistant coach to previous Bafana coach Gordon Igesund, is leading the national Under-19s in a tournament which also features Sporting Lisbon from Portugal, Boca Juniors from Argentina, Everton from England, Feyenoord from Netherlands, Roma from Italy, Santos from Brazil, as well as Hoy Park Sports Development Centre Academy XI from Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The tournament is being held in Durban from 31 July to 9 August.

Letsoaka told Kick Off: “To tell you the truth, the reason why I have been given this task of coaching the Under-19s is because my contract with SAFA as a Bafana Bafana assistant coach ends in August.

“Until the end of August, SAFA can use my services how they see fit, but I don’t know what will happen after the end of this Under-19 tournament.

“This team is an extension of the Under-19 side and will be used as a feeder team going forward. These are boys who were born in 1996 and 1997 and they will be playing tournament like the one we will be playing now.”
