No title fight due to weak rand
The rand-dollar exchange rate makes it almost impossible for SA to host Zolani Tete's IBF title bout.
South African boxer Zolani Tete is unlikely to defend his IBF super-flyweight title in his home country due to financial constraints.
The East London-born boxer won the vacant belt when he beat Teiru Kinoshita in Japan last Friday and promoter Branco Milenkovic says Tete may look for a title unification fight.
Tete will now be in great demand but won’t be able to fight in his own country because, according to Milenkovic, there is not enough money to stage an IBF title bout in SA.
The rand-dollar exchange rate was “making it all but prohibitive,” he explained.
Tete won the IBF Fight of the Year award when he knocked out Juan Carlos Sanchez in a title eliminator in November last year.
