Florida Lake K4 team excels
Team to represent the Gauteng Province at the SA K4 Interprovincial Championships.
The K4 under 23 team from Florida Lake once again showed what they are made of at the Gauteng Canoe Union trials at Roodeplaat Dam recently.
The team came first in the 10km race with a time of 43 minutes and 48 seconds.
Fortunately for the team of youths from underprivileged socio-economic backgrounds, Sandown Motors (Constantia Kloof) provided transport for them to the various preparation races as well as the trials. The team has risen to the occasion, proving their worth.
The SA K4 Championships will take place at Shongweni Dam in KwaZulu-Natal on the first weekend of August where the Florida Lake team will have their work cut out for them, competing against the strongest under 23 paddlers in South Africa.
Donald Moncho who lives in Discovery steers the team, while Sammy Lenyora and Macdonald Nkosi, former pupils at Roodepark Technical School and living in Florida, take up the second and third seats. Melusi Nxumalo brings the power in the rear seat. Melusi attends Seekers High School in Florida where he receives sponsorship from the school and club to enable him to complete high school.
