The winners of the My Band Project, Bevonk the band, were handed their prizes at Music Mate on 14 July.
The prizes are any young band’s dream and include R10 000 cash, a Pearl Vision drum kit, studio time to record two tracks and the use of the Roodepoort Theatre’s Basement Theatre for a period of a year. The prizes were sponsored by Lunika Productions, Music Mate, Shaw Music Studios and the Roodepoort Theatre.
Present at the handover were Masim Majiza (Lunika Productions), Loren Robertson (Roodepoort Theatre), Jonathan Shaw (Shaw Music Studios) and Michael Vangass (Music Mate).
“These prizes are awesome and will give our band the necessary injection to get the edge,” says a very pleased JJ Schoeman, vocalist and guitarist for the band.
“We are looking forward to doing a professional recording. The sky is the limit as far as options are concerned regarding the Basement Theatre. It also solves our rehearsal space problems,” Schoeman jokes.
