Electricity price hike imminent

Nersa gives go-ahead for price hike.

City Power announced two days ago (25 June) that a price hike of an average of seven per cent will be effective as of 1 July.

This comes after the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) approved the tariff increase. According to City Power CEO, Sicelo Xulu, this will help to raise of the capital required to improve infrastructure and ensure the uninterrupted supply of electricity.

A 9,3 per cent increase for time of use for medium-voltage was granted as well as a 0,17 per cent increase for time of use low-voltage customers.

A 7,41 per cent increase for medium-voltage large power users was approved and a 7,37 per cent increase for low-voltage large power users.

Residents who are billed in conventional ways will see a 7,36 per cent increase while pre-paid customers will see a 7,45 per cent increase.
