Blood, pain and sweat at Princess

Ananzi, Cowboy, Raven, Boerseun all victorius at Princess Crossing.

Blood and crazy stunts as on television were brought to Princess Crossing this past weekend as South African Pro Wrestling (SAPW) hosted a Father’s Day brawl.

For a second time SAPW brought an entertaining live wrestling show to its passionate fans and audience at the local shopping centre on Saturday 14 June.

As on television, the audience was kept at the edge of their seats as talented wrestlers put up great fights. Owner of SAPW Gerhard Kuyper described the event as awesome and day families enjoyed with their dads.

“Being a role model for people, entertainment is what it’s all about,” Kuyper said.

SAPW is doing live shows with its 16 top wrestlers all over the country at rallies, events and schools.

“We travel a lot to entertain, but we discourage pupils to try to copy what we do in the ring. Our training facility is based in Brakpan where we teach and educate members.”

Kuyper says that this type of wrestling has grown over the past five years. He says it is popular under the youngsters who enjoy the characters and the older generation who is familiar with the Danie Voges wrestling style.

The Bandit was declared the winner over Harley Quinn in the first match. Cowboy was victorious in the second fight against Gravity after he got the referee on his side.

The third match up got interesting with two women wrestlers, Angel and Raven. Despite her somewhat scary looks, Raven won via pinfall after she had struck Angel behind the head with a keyboard. Raven’s ringside partner, The Crow kept the referee busy, which led to the win.

Things got serious when All African Wrestling Champion Ananzi and Two Face got into the ring. With Two Face eager to take on the champ and cause an upset, Ananzi eventually won the battle via pinfall.

The main event then saw another crowd favourite – Boerseun get the better of The Crow in a brutal table and chairs match.
