Metrobus asks for patience

Metrobus again responds positively to the public's concerns.

Metrobus is working hard at updating their fleet amidst a new stream of complaints from the public.

Various Metrobus users lately have raised complaints against the service entity about pollution, overcrowding and the bad state most of the buses are in.

Communication officer Esther Dreyer addressed the complaints and explains why the promised 150 new eco-friendly duel-fuel buses are not in use yet.

“Unfortunately, although we were hoping for April, the tender process is time-consuming and because the criteria we have set for suppliers to meet are unique, the delivery is taking longer than expected,” says Dreyer.

Dreyer appeals to the public to be patient with Metrobus.

She also explains that Metrobus is experimenting with converting some of their older buses to use both compressed natural gas (CNG) and diesel, and says that the experiment is proving to be successful.

Two of these buses are already on the road and have been rebranded to contain a red stripe to differentiate them from their regular buses. Dreyer says that these prove to be quite cost effective.

Although she could not provide the date of the arrival of the new duel-fuel buses, she says the entity is very positive about the endeavour.

The company will partner with Pikitup, which will assist in supplying biofuel for the new buses that will be derived from their landfills.

Dreyer has invited the record to come for an in-depth presentation on what Metrobus is busy with, which she says will interest even the most “untechnical person”.
