Sasol Bird Fair: Ticket giveaway

The competition closes on Friday 16 May at 1 pm.

Residents are encouraged to flock to the Sasol Bird Fair at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden this June.

Garden curator Thompson Muthinyala says that residents can support their quest for preserving biodiversity by attending the fair in great numbers.

The fair on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June is said to be an interactive and educational experience for the whole family. It is South Africa’s largest annual bird fair and will be hosted in partnership with BirdLife South Africa and the South African National Biodiversity Institute (Sanbi).

Interactive and educational activities for children and photography courses for adults are just a part of the fun planned for the weekend. Other activities include bird-identification courses, guided bird walks and competitions. This year the fair will focus on seabirds that are on the verge of extinction.

“At the Sasol Bird Fair we create much-needed awareness about the importance of birds and bird habitat conservation,” Dr Ross Wenlan of BirdLife South Africa says.

Sasol sponsorship manager Richard Hughes says the interactive experience will be a celebration of the country’s magnificent bird life. Tickets cost only R35 per person and are offered at discounted rates for pensioners, scholars and children. Fair organisers are giving away three double tickets to three lucky Roodepoort record readers.
