Miss Belly Dance SA crowned in Roodepoort
Local competitors say that the competition has improved since previous years.

Dancers from every corner of South Africa and some from as far as Mozambique made their way to the Roodepoort Theatre on Sunday 27 April.
There they either competed for the junior or adult Miss Belly Dance South Africa 2014 title or chanced the non-title categories. Families and local supporters gathered at the Theatre on Sunday to celebrate that which belly dancing enhances in these young women – beauty, poise and confidence.
When the record asked Roxanne Froneman (22) from Ruimsig whether this was her first time competing, she said no.
“I competed in a group category last year, but we didn’t place [sic].
“This is my first year doing a solo.”
Froneman said that the competition was better than last year in terms of numbers and talent.
“I found the competition very good – there are more competitors than last years (even foreign competitors) and it remains a great platform for the evolution of belly dancing.
“It also gives the belly dancers, myself included, an opportunity to learn from one another in terms of style and attitude.
“Overall, it works to increase the quality of the South African dancer.”
Froneman who represented Dancing Divinity, a belly dancing school in Bryanston, placed third in the Adult Divine Drum Solo category. Dancing Divinity also boasts the talents of Bianca Pieters, who this year won the Miss Belly Dance South Africa Special Award for Soloist of the Year, as well as winning in the Adult Fascinating Fusion Solo and being crowned first princess in the Adult Miss Belly Dance South Africa 2014 category.
Other competitors representing Johannesburg came from Bhana’s Dance Studio in Rivonia and Belly Dance Goddess and also placed in the non-title categories.
