Funeral arrangements for toddler killed over Easter

Funeral arrangements have been made for the toddler (4) who tragically was killed in a car crash on Good Friday, a close friend of the boy’s father confirmed.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, confirmed that a funeral service will be held for the late toddler Clarkie Breedt (4) at the AFM Krugersdorp West church around 2pm on Friday 25 April.

He was killed after the vehicle he travelled in was T-boned by another vehicle at the corner of Voortrekker/ Ontdekkers Road and Chelsea Avenue on Good Friday 18 April. Paramedics reported that the boy had not been wearing a seatbelt.

Although the mother was reported to be injured seriously, an eyewitness Lindie Breedt who arrived at the scene says the mother was unharmed and that “she was not the woman sitting in front holding the boy on her lap without wearing a seatbelt, as she was sitting at the back.”

The mother’s behaviour at the scene also was a great concern to bystanders. Breedt mentioned that certain persons reeked of alcohol and that speeding could have played a role.

Breedt explained that at the time of the accident four people (including the boy) were travelling in one vehicle, of which the driver is believed to be in his late 30s. The woman (believed to be in her 40s) who sat in the front passenger seat holding the boy on her lap was the one transported to hospital while the boy’s biological mother (in her 30s) was sitting at the back.

Breedt added that the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash mentioned to her that a truck attempted to make a U-turn and obstructed their view shortly before they collided into the vehicle the boy was travelling in.

After the collision, the truck was nowhere to be found.

The matter is being investigated by the police.

Boy (4) without seatbelt killed in crash

A four-year-old boy died and his mother was injured seriously following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Ontdekkers/ Voortrekker Road and Chelsea Avenue this past weekend.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha, “The boy was sitting on his mother’s lap while travelling on Ontdekkers/ Voortrekker Road when the accident happened.

“Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that the unrestrained child tragically had died.

“Although the exact details of the cause of the accident and preceding events will be investigated by the police, it seems that one of the vehicles crashed into the side of the other.

“The mother, who had sustained serious injuries was stabilised before she was transported to a nearby hospital for further care. No-one else was injured.”

Botha added that over the weekend another child also not wearing a safety belt was killed in a motor vehicle accident in the Free State.
