Cecil Payne alive with Sparrow Village supporters
Sparrow Rainbow Village residents connected with residents of the surrounding areas over sports.
Children who reside in the Sparrow Rainbow Village enjoyed some quality time with members of the community on Saturday 29 March.
The Village held an annual Sports Fun Day at the Cecil Payne Stadium right next to its premises to integrate the children with their community’s activities and to raise funds for its residents. Each person attending was asked to bring along cans of non-perishable food and the money made from stalls that were open on the day was considered a donation to the Village. From around 10am on Saturday people flocked to the stadium.
Village bookkeeper Rushfieda Brown told the Record that they offered jumping castles, food and activity stalls. Various sports people representing different sporting codes were available to teach the children. The codes included soccer, softball and baseball. The Dragon Wings baseball and softball teams that usually use the Cecil Payne Stadium for their practices and home games had offered their services to children interested in these sports. Children were divided into teams and played in official Little Wings T-shirts – the colours of the club’s official little league.
The community’s day out in the sunny Maraisburg was accompanied by beat-driven music that got children, and even some adults, dancing on the field.
