Nerine Niemand, Dorcas Aid fundraiser, thanked FleetAfrica for their generosity in a speech at their outreach site, the Dumpsite informal settlement, on Thursday 20 March.

A group of Dorcas Aid staff and FleetAfrica volunteers gathered at the site on the day in order to hand over some of the 350 blue buckets to families in the community. The handover was the result of the FleetAfrica wing of the Blue Bucket Campaign that was launched on 20 February at the FleetAfrica offices in Sandton. The Blue Bucket Campaign, a Dorcas Aid initiative, aims to put together buckets that are either a food or a personal hygiene parcel, each containing at least 13 items. Then these buckets are distributed to less fortunate communities or in disaster management cases where families often are left without such necessities.

“We could see back then already that the staff of FleetAfrica was going to take the Blue Bucket Campaign very seriously, and just have a look what they had produced in a month’s time.

“By 3 March the staff already had filled 38 buckets and the project manager estimated that the end result would be around 60 buckets.”

During the launch of the campaign at the FleetAfrica offices, CEO Kamagelo Mmutlana pledged that for every bucket that the staff of FleetAfrica would be able to fill, FleetAfrica as a company would fill another. 173 buckets were filled by staff members.

“Never in our wildest dreams did we think it would reach a staggering total of 356 buckets.”

Niemand handed over a certificate as a token of their appreciation to COO ???.

“This is a truly amazing campaign, and without the efforts of the staff of FleetAfrica, today would not have been possible.

“We doubt that the staff realises that this donation is worth more than R40 000; also, enough R4 meals were put together to provide 1 000 meals to those in need today.

“We cannot thank you enough!”
