SA Strongmen to go head-to-head with public

"You do not have to be pro."

The stage is set where SA Strongmen athletes will go head to head with the public at the Princess Crossing Shopping Kingdom on Saturday 5 April.

It’s not every day that one can test your strength against some the best in the muscle business but the opportunity to do so has arrived.

On that day, some of South Africa’s strongest athletes in the U/105kg category will do battle against the men in the public who think they have what it takes.

The event is referred to as the 2014 SA Under 105kg Qualifying tour brought to you by the South African Strongman Union. The event also serves as a SA qualifier for the SA Championships to take place in November at the end of this year at the Menlyn Shopping Mall in Pretoria.

Some of the tough challenges you have to do:

• Dead lift for max weight

• Suitcases 110kg for 40m

• Log max weight 100kg (opening weight)

• Yoke walk 350kg for 20m

• 130kg Atlas stone for reps over 1,2m bar

According to one of the organisers of the event and an SA Strongman athlete to compete on the day, Frikkie Page, “The competition is open to anyone in the public who think they have got what it takes.

“You do not have to be pro. The only requirement is that you have to weigh less than 105kg to be able to participate.”

Other famous SA Strongmen to compete on the day are Willie White – SA’s u/105kg Strongest Man as well as Kreson Pillay and Jan Greyvenstein.

The number of entries is limited to 30, so one has to get a move one should you dare to enter. Spectators are free.
