Rocci speaking with Florida TM
The Florida Toastmasters presented the value of speaking comfortably to Rocci members on Thursday.
From 9am until 11am an audience gathered in the Phelindaba Chamber of the Roodepoort Civic Centre where Toastmasters Robert de Kramer, Tim Knights, Michael Glencross, Barry Nelson and Mark van Vuuren broke down the value of being comfortable with speaking publicly.
The first two orders of the workshop was explaining the Competent Communicator manual as well as dealing with impromptu speaking, two important aspects of the Toastmasters process. The Competent Communicator manual is the first set of 10 tasked speeches that a new Toastmaster presents, and is meant to cover basic speaking skills and basic demonstration. Tim Knights explained it well.
“As someone who might have to speak at a meeting or conference, you have to know that your delivery is extremely important. “With us, you’ll learn the power of pausing at the right moment.
“Research is key when preparing your speech.”
Knights broke down each of the assigned speeches, two of which are speaking to persuade an audience and speaking with the use of visual aids. He added that the Toastmasters follow a process called Smart to determine the goals of their speeches: Goals have to be Specific, Measurable, Agreeable, Realistic and finally, Time-based and thus, attainable.
