Being your best with Florida TM

The Florida Toastmasters discussed exciting topics during their first meeting of 2014.

The Toastmasters motivated their fellow members and the club’s guests to be the best version of themselves at the first Florida Toastmasters meeting of 2014.

New Years wishes, Christmas stories and other exciting news were shared amongst the members before Cleone Carter-Smith, Toastmaster of the evening, set things in motion. She explained that the author Dr Seuss inspired her as a child and she kept Dr Seuss quotes as a theme throughout the night of fresh speeches.

“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.”

Members Cynthia Seemane, Mark van Vuuren, Margaret Roodt and Cleone Carter-Smith entertained the audience with speeches covering various topics such as excercise, a fuller life, organ donation and lies.

Seemane’s assignment was to use her body during her speech to which she responded by speaking about and demonstrating brief morning excercises. Carter-Smith was challenged to exaggerate during her assignment and spoke with great exaggeration of the lies people tell to stay home from work.

By the end of the night, Margaret Roodt won the Best Speaker award for daring her audience to at least do research and consider becoming organ donors.

The guests of the evening, Record journalist included, were challenged during the table topics session to deliver short, unprepared speeches, for which the journalist won the Best Table Topic Speaker award.

The Florida Toastmasters meet at the Huguenot Restaurant in Flora Centre on every first and third Tuesday of the month.
