New Sables committee and president elected
"David is dedicated to the game of bowls" – former president.
Exciting times lay ahead for the Sables Bowling Association after a new committee was elected and some interesting plans to market the sport for the future was rolled out.
Standing tall and proud as new president of the district is former media liaison and vice-president, David Parker. He officially was appointed president in September 2013, taking over the reins from Ian Stayt.
“It was fun while it lasted but all good things come to an end. I loved it, the challenge and the support I got from the players in Sables were fantastic. It was well worth doing,” the former President Ian said.
Asked if David is the right man for the job Ian replied, “Absolutely, David is very dedicated to the game of bowls and I think with support from the clubs within the district, he’ll do exceptionally well”.
Although Ian did not want to give away all of the plans for bowls in the future, he did mention, “There is a move to give bowls in the Sables area a big push. This can be done only through a big marketing plan where we will visit schools, hand out flyers and put up banners at businesses and malls throughout Roodepoort and the West Rand. We are looking forward to some exciting times ahead.”
The newly elected and current committee for Sables is:
• Sarel Herbst – vice-president
• Graham Morton – media liaison
• Rob McCarity
• Tom Kneen (lawyer)
• Denise Clarence
• Janeth Blythe and JJ Bedford-Owen – competition secretaries
• Sandra Viljoen – secretary
