Entries for 16th Wilro Lions Cycle Challenge in full swing

Cyclists encouraged to enter one of the West Rand's premier bike riding events.

Wilro Lions Cycle Challenge fever is already in the air as entries for the event head for its third week.

As entries have opened late in December 2013, one of the organisers of the event, the enthusiastic Rob Stevens from Westgate Wheelers says, “It’s nothing new to open entries this early. It is done to encourage and motivate cyclists to gear up and get back into racing mode to get rid of that laziness from the holidays.”

This year will see the 16th Wilro Lions Cycle Challenge. For a sixth time the event will take place at the Tarlton International Raceway and will be on Sunday 6 April. Cyclists can enter online at www.cycleevents.co.za and have until Sunday 23 March to do so.

The distances are the manageable yet challenging 41km, or the tough 114km. The Wilro Lions Cycle Challenge is a popular road biking event on the West Rand and also an official premier seeding event for the 2015 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour.

“We are expecting a turnout of around 1 500 people, but as we all know it could be less considering the financial pressure on South Africans nowadays. We remain optimistic that there will be a bigger turnout this year,” Rob says.

A total of 1 000 cyclists descended on Tarlton last year to participate in the event.
