January jollity with Kloofendal
Don't miss these exciting events at Kloofendal Nature Reserve at the end of January.

Another set of interesting events that offer both learning experiences and good family fun has been scheduled at the Kloofendal Nature Reserve, said Karin Spottiswoode on Wednesday 15 January.
Learn interesting facts from Karin about the different types of grasses and how they can be identified on Saturday 25 January. The tour starts at 9.30am and costs R120 per person. Each participant is required to bring along a Grass ID book (such as Frits van Oudtshoorn’s book Guide to Grasses of Southern Africa) and a magnifying loupe. Karin recommends bringing along a camping chair and some snacks.
Bring the family for an evening of fun on Saturday 25 January and join a nocturnal walk through the Reserve to search for frogs. From 6pm to 8pm guide Warren Schmidt first will present interesting facts about the frogs, followed by a walk to find them in the Reserve. Participants are welcome to picnic before the event, and are advised to bring raincoats and torches. The event costs R70 per adult, R60 per pensioner and R50 per child, and R10 per car for security in the parking area.
Ever caught a butterfly? Now you can with the Friends of Kloofendal (FroK) on Saturday 26 January, guided by Grant Egen. Catch butterflies with nets and sample jars supplied by FroK, and have Egen identify them and talk about them before releasing them at the end of the event. This learning experience costs R60 per adult, R50 per pensioner and R40 per child and starts at 9am.
The FroK EE Centre is open at each FroK event and entry into the Reserve is free. There are picnic and ablution facilities, but no tuck shop or restaurant. Nature adventure walks for schools, scouts and other groups (not more than 20 people per session) can be booked with Karin on 079 693 5608.
