Motorists incorrectly trapped
Motorists warned about incorrect trapping on Christiaan de Wet Road.

More than one resident has contacted the Record to complain about speeding tickets they received on Christiaan de Wet Road on the stretch between Hendrik Potgieter and Erasmus Roads.
Apparently JMPD is issuing tickets for speeding as if it is a 60km per hour zone whereas signs say it is in fact an 80km per hour zone.
One such resident who had the misfortune of being wrongfully trapped is Mark Webster’s daughter.
“My daughter received a fine from JMPD for speeding. The fine was for R1 500 for the speed of 99km per hour, but the fine noted that the speed limit was 60km per hour. I thought that this was strange as I was sure that it was 80km per hour zone as I drive that road often,” says Webster.
“I took a drive down the road and lo and behold it is an 80km per hour zone all the way down to Hendrik Potgieter Road. I have gone to JMPD and made representation, saying that the fine factually was incorrect and the speed demarcation is incorrect. They have accepted the representation and I will find out in due course what will happen to the fine,” Webster further explains.
Webster says that although he was alert to the problem that other residents should take caution on this stretch of road.
Residents are advised to question fines that they receive on this piece of road until JMPD has rectified the problem.

The exact thing happened to us which is very frustrating as this now causes unnecessary hassles for us (the innocent party), as we now have to go to the traffic department and fill in forms etc.
For all we know, they are probably doing this on purpose just to fatten their coffers, because how many unknowing people are probably just paying these fines.
I live in Radiokop and travel on Christiaan De Wet road to Florida to my work place every day.
I also received a fine saying that I was doing a speed of 71-75km/h in a 60 km/h zone and the penalty is R250.00 and discounted amount is R125.00.
I proceeded to JMPD to see if I could have this speeding fine reversed and was then given a form to fill in and now the hassel starts.
My brother also has a fine on the exactly the same spot, but on this fine the speed limit is correct and recorded as 80 km/h.
