National elections are only six months away and the country is already in the grip of election fever.
There will be a voter registration weekend from 9 to 10 November.
Councillor Gert Niemand from Ward 71, Witpoortjie says, “In order for every citizen to exercise their democratic right and have a say in the 2014 National Election, it is imperative that they ensure that they are registered to vote. To register as a new voter, or to change one’s personal details, potential voters should visit their nearest voting stations and bring along their bar-coded identity document, or valid temporary identification certificate.”
Ward 71 will have five voter stations being Lantern School (Lindhaven), Die Adelaar High School (Princess), Culembeek Primary School (Witpoortjie), Roodebeek Primary School (Witpoortjie) and Davidsonville Community Centre.
“We encourage everyone, even if you think you are registered already to vote or if your details haven’t changed, to go to the voting station and verify your registration,” says Niemand.
Residents can check their registration details by sending an SMS with their ID number to 32810 or by logging onto www.elections.org.za, click on “Am I registered to vote?” and check your voter status by entering your ID number.
