Cansa approves Salton baby products

Cansa recently awarded two Salton Baby products the Smart Choice Seal.

According to a Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) press release, another two products qualify for their Smart Choice Seal.

The Cansa Smart Choice Seal aims to educate consumers about the products that they ought to buy. According to Sue Janse van Rensburg, Cansa’s CEO, the Cansa Smart Choice Seal helps consumers to identify products that are free of carcinogens.

She explains that carcinogens are those elements of a product that may cause cancer. One of these carcinogens have been identified as Bisphenol A (BPA), a harmful chemical regularly found in consumer items. Some reports link BPA to serious health issues such as increased risks of breast and prostate cancer. Cansa believes that children and infants are especially vulnerable to BPA.

By these beliefs Cansa found that two Salton Baby products qualify for their Seal of approval – the Salton Baby bottle and food warmer and the Salton Baby all-in-one food steamer.

“Knowing that these products are designed specifically for the little ones and are BPA-free, which makes them safe for parents to use, they qualified for the Cansa Seal in the food category.

“We also promote steaming as a food preparation choice for children as it is the perfect way to introduce babies to solid food.

“Independent research studies have shown consistently that steaming helps food retain more nutrients, which is needed to help boost a baby’s immunity.”

In October 2011, precisely two years ago, South Africa had joined countries such as Canada, France and Denmark in banning the use of BPA in baby bottles.
