FLCC’s dragon boat team finish third in mixed category

Florida teams deliver in dragon boat event despite weather.

The 18-man dragon boat team of Florida Lake Canoe Club (FLCC) took third place in the mixed category during this past weekend’s dragon boat race hosted by the Florida Lake Dragon Boat Association.

Despite the rather miserable weather on Sunday afternoon 22 September, participants arrived in large numbers to compete.

“There were a variety of dragon boat races with a good turnout and a fun-filled festive atmosphere despite the weekend’s cold front that brought grey overcast windy and cold weather to Roodepoort,” FLCC’s Jennie Dallas said.

“Spectators huddled in the clubhouses and under blankets, sipping hot drinks while the brave youths from the Chinese Dragon Boat Association, Parys’ Dome team, a Pimville team, EMS cadets, a Roodepoort Running Club team and various other teams participated to race against 10-man and 18-man crews in frenetic and enjoyable team building races.”

It seemed a good day at the office for FLCC as the Florida Lake Dragon Boat Association’s team won the 10-man Open category.
