Family mourns death of another loved one on motorcycle
Youngster perishes in crash between a truck and his motorcycle.
A family is in mourning after the death of a motorcyclist in his early 20s following a collision between a truck and his motorcycle on Saturday night 21 September.
At approximately 10.40pm, paramedics and police were called out to a horrific accident scene at the corner of Ontdekkers Road and Brown Street near Princess Crossing Shopping Centre.
The Record was able to confirm that the youngster on the motorcycle has been identified as AJ Coetzee, a former pupil of Hoërskool Bastion known by friends and family as Klein Koos. He has perished seven lamp posts away from where his father, Koos snr, sadly passed away seven years ago. Father and son were riding similar motorbikes when they died – a Kawasaki ZX12 – the only difference being the colour.
According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann, “Paramedics rushed to the scene and found that a heavy goods vehicle and motorcyclist collided at the intersection.
“The motorcyclist was declared dead on the scene due to the severe injuries he sustained. The exact cause of the accident remains the subject of a police investigation.”
The Roodepoort South African Police Service (SAPS) as well as the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Wayne Minnaar confirmed that a case of culpable homicide had been opened.
“The truck driver was making a right turn when the motorcyclist collided into him. The truck driver was not arrested but police are investigating a case of culpable homicide,” Minnaar explained.
A close relative of Coetzee confirmed that funeral arrangements have been made.
More details will follow soon.

This is so sad irrespective who could be wrong but its unacceptable.May his soul rest in peace.
This picture is entirely too graphic!! There is a family behind this picture that has lost a loved one!! A picture of the bike would have been just as striking – no need for the body – we know he persihed by the headline itself. This is a community newspaper…I hope the family of the 40 year old gent (whose life was also taken as a result of a bike accident) made a visit to your office as i KNOW another family member did of AJ… Have some respect. Report the news by all means but come on…
