Joburg Water impresses Witpoortjie tenants

Joburg Water foreman says that they aren't working only because of next year's election.

Tenants of the Alpha Centre on Generaal Pienaar Street were pleasantly surprised by the cooperation from Joburg Water with a water pressure issue on Tuesday 17 September.

Hairdresser at the Carene Hair Studio on Generaal Pienaar Street, Carl Pieterse, told the Record that Joburg Water has been “wonderful” in working with the landlord and tenants of Alpha Centre, where a water pressure issue has been plaguing them for a month.

“For about three weeks it was manageable, but last week it was really bad and we decided to take our chances.”

Pieterse says that Joburg Water was contacted on Friday 13 September to log the complaint.

“Our landlord had a plumber out before, who only confirmed that the water pressure issue was not caused by the building’s plumbing structure.

“That’s when the call was made.”

Joburg Water Roodepoort foreman, Sam Sithole, who was sceptical about the Record’s presence, says that his team “works in Roodepoort all the time.

“I don’t want another person saying that we’re only fixing things because the elections are coming up – we want Joburg Water to work smoothly, we’re here to help.”

Although arriving on Tuesday at around 9am, Joburg Water employees Solly Baloyi and Peter Morado couldn’t start digging without Sithole’s approval.

“We went out to other jobs and came back at around 1pm to dig and see what’s going on.”

Although by 2.50 pm on Tuesday the team still could not confirm what the problem was, they were positive that their suspicions about the issue would be confirmed once they reached the main lines.

Pieterse says that the tenants were “very patient, because these men have really been wonderful”. A time by which the repairs would be finished could not be confirmed.
