The Clearwater Mall Round Table charity trolley race was held on 18 August.
The Roodepoort 162 Round Table in conjunction with Clearwater Mall and in association with CMS Promotions hosted the fourth trolley race.
The main idea of the race is to pay for a shopping trolley (which is supplied on race day) at a cost of only R500 per trolley. The trolley is manned by four people, the pilot (who sits in the trolley) and three runners that push the trolley through a course in the parking lot of Clearwater Mall. The R500 trolley fee buys the branding rights on the trolley and racers can brand or decorate it with anything they see fit. Some people advertised while some just themed it and took the opportunity to have fun for the benefit of two charity organisations in the community.
The race raised R12 000. The two beneficiaries of the charity race are the Gateway Society and Matla A Bana.
Matla A Bana is an organisation that is “a voice against child abuse”.
At 6.30am teams of racers started the registration and trolleys were decorated. When the starting shot went off at 7.30am, little did the racers know how long the 2,8km track around the parking areas of Clearwater Mall would become.
The winners were in first position a CMS Promotions sponsored trolley manned by runners from Maragon Private Schools, followed by Horison Karate Centre Team One and in third place Maragon Private Schools.
