Jacaranda Pops draws crowds

Residents were pleased with great performances at the annual Toyota Jacaranda Pops.

Crowds from all over Gauteng enjoyed music, food and sun in the Kloofendal Nature Reserve with the annual Toyota Jacaranda Pops festival on Saturday 10 August.

By the Record’s arrival at 2.15pm a security guard alleged that 4 000 people are already on the premises.

This year the festival focused on radio hits from the 80s, 90s and 2000s to entertain a crowd of all ages. Artists, along with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, performed their own songs as well as covers of Jacaranda hits, ensuring entertainment for all.

The programme featured artists such as Karen Zoid, Dr Victor, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Khaya, Lily Million and Nicholas Louw. Some Jacaranda FM presenters, which included television personality Rian van Heerden who presents Rian on DStv channel kykNET, coordinated the event.

Residents also had the opportunity to meet their favourite Jacaranda FM presenters. Members of Club Jacaranda could enjoy the Jacaranda Lekker Zone and collect artists’ autographs. Everyone attending got complimentary plastic drinking cups and Jacaranda or Spar visors.

Although this type of music is not her usual choice, Florida resident Roxy de Villiers said that she was “pleasantly surprised”.

“I really enjoyed some of the music and the drummers.”

Jacaranda FM surprised the crowd with special performances by a children orchestra, a traditional Scottish pipe band and a group of drummers that created a special vibe.

Camera crews saw to it that the performances were displayed on large screens on the sides of the stage.

Karen Zoid celebrated her birthday on this day and later thanked the crowd on facebook, saying that their birthday wishes “really touched my heart”.

“It was absolutely awesome,” resident Pat van Eck Kruger remarked.

The funds raised by this Jacaranda FM event will go towards the community-enhancing Good Morning Angels programme. For information on how to get involved with the programme or to nominate someone to get assistance, send an email to angels@jacarandafm.com.
