Opera is back and better than ever

Tenor Stéfan Louw will entertain and delight at the Roodepoort Theatre soon.

Tenor Stéfan Louw will be showcasing his own production called Aria, Opera for Everyone at the Roodepoort Theatre on 4 October.

He will be working with baritone Aubrey Lodewyk and pianist Eugene Joubert, and together they will be treating the audience with lesser-known arias and duets.

The production team aims to attract a new audience for each show, focusing primarily on those who have never been to an opera concert before.

“At every concert held so far this year, at least 60 per cent of the audience was new to the opera,” Louw said.

Granted that Louw works independently, he often provides opportunities for previously disadvantaged children between the ages of 12 and 19 to make them aware of the artistic platform. He enjoys exposing their talent to the masses through opera as an art.

The creative director and project manager at the Hillbrow Theatre Project, Gerhard Bester who also is part of the Outreach Foundation says that the children sincerely enjoyed the first concert.

“The groups have been growing and we have larger numbers.”

This will be the second last opera show of the year. Bookings for tickets are to be made at Computicket, with ticket prices ranging from R50 to R120. The show starts at 8pm and finishes at 9.30pm.
