A drama that is reeking of cheap political opportunism by all involved, in the run-up to the election in 2014, is getting nastier by the moment.
With DA Councillor Dave Dewes claiming that he was charged with intimidation by one of his tenants and the ANC retaliating that he is a ‘tyrant’, ‘bully’ and ‘slum lord’, things now have gone south.
Even some of Dewes’ supporters feel that he has overplayed his hand this time. After the ANC’s fierce response to the drama, Dewes had the following to say to his opposition and critics.
“How I love politics. It definitely is not for the faint-hearted. I always have professed I will die defending the truth, something my comrades have an obvious problem with. I think Record readers will recall the front page article, only a few weeks ago, where I personally was building shacks. Who’s lying? Again another word I like using when I describe my esteemed comrades is nyoka (Zulu for snake). I promise, the truth will be revealed,” says Dewes.
Dewes is to appear in court on 29 July.
