Kilburn shop abducts clothes

Kilburn do-it-all shop abducts clothes.

Kilburn Shopping Centre has a mysterious do-it-all shop where clothes vanish, according to a resident.

George Jack approached the Record with his complaint about trousers that he handed in for alterations on 19 June. According to his report, he had to pay R30 for the alterations and never has seen his trousers again.

“My trousers were handed in in June and to date I have not seen it again. It simply disappeared.

“When I went to fetch it and asked for it, the employee just laughed at me.

“We searched for my trousers, but it was not in the shop.”

Jack says that the cost for the alterations isn’t much, but that the trousers’ cost also comes into question when it is just missing with no explanation.

“They did not offer me a refund or cover for the loss of my trousers.

“How can a business like this operate?”

Upon the Record‘s investigation, the shop offers many services, from clothing alterations to hairdressing and a pet grooming salon. The shop also sells cellphones and cellphone accessories and do cellphone repairs.

With the Record‘s visit to the shop, pretendending to be a potential customer, the owners or employees were not inside but were sitting on the pavement in the parking lot. They rushed to assist the journalist, who asked what it would cost to alter her jeans and when she can expect to have it done (the same R30 applied and it allegedly would take 30 minutes to complete).

The shop inside was dark (no sign of electricity) and a woman randomly appeared from behind a counter. An awkward smell was also present.

If any resident that has had an experience at this shop or has any information on the owners, please send all information to journalist Mathilde Myburgh at mathildem@caxton.co.za.
