30+ Medals for Wendy’s karate students at Nationals

"I am extremely proud of them" – sensei.

Sensei Wendy Wannenburg (sixth dan) of the Horizon View Karate Centre commended her 42 students who returned from the JKA National Championships with 33 medals.

The JKA National Championships were held from Friday 31 May and Saturday 1 June at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg.

“I am very proud of all my students. We did extremely well. This was a very big tournament with entries from across South Africa and divisions according to age, belt and gender. Our hard work has paid off.”

Friday’s events were the novice sections – white to red and senior brown belts – and Saturday’s events were for the elite competitors – junior brown and black belts and adults’ black belts.

The dojo is situated at 213 Ontdekkers Road and has delivered impressive results in the 12 years of its existence.

Classes are offered from age five to adults and it is not necessary to participate competitively.
